Continuous Heartburn?

HOME STUDENT AND CURIA: GIFT OR POSSESSION? November 10, 2009 in L'Aquila

--------------

I recently became aware of an article on the Internet ( http://www.abruzzo24ore.tv/news/Monsignore-permette-una -domanda/13580.htm ) when I am mentioned as a professor at the University of L'Aquila and provides a position on my the issue of the student's home (which apparently won the Lombardia region to the Curia). For the avoidance to avoid misunderstandings between the university and the city's ecclesiastical institutions, I think it should be noted that I have not spoken on behalf of the University to which I belong, but only in a personal capacity, that is as free citizens exercising his right - enshrined in the Constitution - to express political dissent civilly, at this point I feel obliged to explain in more detail.

As specified in Article, the request addressed to Mgr. Molinari was detected by my observation. What observation? This is my answer-a proposal sent to a mailing list of committees on the fact that this student house - built at the expense of the taxpayers of the Lombardy Region (Catholic or not) - was built on land that now the Curia who will own and manage in thirty years (all thanks to an agreement reached with the complicity of the Abruzzo region). This is what I seem to have understood the question, if things do not stay so I apologize for the misunderstanding, but if not I repeat my impression.

Here, in full, the e-mail in question:

"focusing on the most simple that highlights the discrimination practiced, Archbishop millers - and all our benefactors variously secular politicians - should be asked: " because if the church repossess properties built on his land this should not apply to all citizens dispossessed? ". what is the criterion on which this claim of different treatment?

friuli: first work then the houses, then the churches

the eagle: the first he asked the houses, then the work

each passing day the earthquake policy makes this city a little more ugly "

(Please do not interpret the tiny as pure disrespect: it is language suggested by the informal and fast communication via email)

In other words, the Curia or not, the substance of the matter is: simplify, following the earthquake were triggered in the territory of L'Aquila - under the misleading name of generic "reconstruction" - common processes of new construction of buildings, land directed to various properties. Specifically, these processes have provided on behalf of the emergency, an extensive expropriation procedure, which have affected nearly always smallholders and almost never land of business lobbies, the State Property and the Curia (which is probably as well as the institutional bridge between God and men, the largest landowner national).

Above many nuances to proceedings, specificity, decrees, requirements and needs, the facts pointing to a scenario in which - following the catastrophic event - many smallholders will suffer a considerable loss while a series of powerful institutions stand to benefit economically in various ways, among which, as it seems in this case, the Curia. Given for granted that this is objectively the student's home a profit for the institution which will acquire the property, personally I would contest that the elements of moral contradiction (as opposed to the founding principles of Christianity) and social injustice ( of the fact that there was an unequal treatment between different social actors included in a common context).

The facts, in their simplicity, always threatening to escape from the complication of many explanations designed to sophisticate the evidence. In this case the evidence seems one in which someone makes the "business" and someone else takes the so-called "scam". From this we must start to value a event instead went to public opinion as well: the Church has donated his land to make the University Residence Halls. In all modes should be also considered that this episode of the entertaining elements in common with the troubled atmosphere in which we are getting used to it after the earthquake: a tangle of complications, positions, and visions of different versions, where confusion becomes let it go for the best ally.

the case will specify that, although essentially 'secular', not an anti-clerical "to bias", so, it will not be an "attack on the Church" (to use formula is the ritual which usually condemns those who criticism of this institution), but a timely critical to a specific event, but would not make sense except in the context of the establishment that it is interested.

Being informed of incidents such as the failure of past pandemic to colonial temptations of perversions or current scandal of pedophile priests sporadic, now wants to know who knows that The Church, like any other human order, is made up of good and bad people. What changes dramatically compared to other institutions only mundane - at least in theory - are the founding principles, and therefore the intentions. If men are accountable to God, the Church should provide an example to men. Even so grotesque that I think happened: the issue of the student's home is an example of a trend that seems to have caught on very well in L'Aquila from 6 April, to do business with the reconstruction, under the pretext of helping to help.

Well, I do not think edifying what happened, not only because it seems that the Curia might have benefited economically from this, but that advantage because, while it is touted as a charity is set up as a double privilege as soon as it is situated in a broader framework where other "mere mortals" have felt disadvantaged. Even for this it is time to know what won the national church and the world in support of earthquake victims, and what has made the local church for the earthquake (they will say that the Church and earthquakes, but the Church exists only in L'Aquila, L'Aquila while yes, or at least try to continue to do so in different ways).

What I have seen all that Aquila is immediately after the earthquake all the churches have been carefully propped up with a fast moving, but which has hardly ever been able to benefit from the residential fabric " profane "in the city (which mostly after seven months is still waiting in the rain). Nothing to complain about the monumental churches, God forbid, but the point is that any church anything but monumental, in a state of abandonment, of little architectural or artistic value, was promptly wrapped in a flawless, all, all at once. be a coincidence or a sign by which to interpret certain priorities implicit in the circus act of reconstruction?

Since the issue here may be useful to recall the concept of 'agape', an obsolete term to denote the ideal of charity, Christian love, understood as a total gift unconditional, pure, absolute. Agape - as an act of moral elevation - is distinguished from do ut des , from an exchange of the giver to have a turn, and is opposed to ' eros, which means love as possession. Analysing the simple consequences brought by certain needs, you may not notice that, while for many citizens - those dispossessed - the earthquake has resulted in tax agape, forced to the Curia promises - in fact that is outside views - a profit objective in terms of possession, of eros, in fact, if you want to stay in certain terms, which is touted as agape.

Maybe they are excessive and trivial to see in this episode only a worldly form of speculation? I do not know. However, you will forgive my nondenominational naivete, I thought I understood that the same Pope Benedict XVI in his first encyclical stresses the need to reintegrate eros (love as a possession) and agape (selfless love) to reach a dimension of reciprocity, which provides the basis for the social doctrine of the Church. From the profane, reading the encyclical, I wrote that "love can be" commanded "because it has first been given." The hermeneutic perspective does wonders, and perhaps, in a sense, a canonical form of reciprocity may also be apparent in what happened in L'Aquila is between the Church and the Lombardy region.

But the doubt - then that is basically the only measure of the secular belief - remains in my thoughts, comforted by the fact that Ratzinger himself, long before becoming Pope, said that: "the Church is becoming for many the 'main obstacle to faith. They can no longer see it as nothing more than the human ambition of power, the small theater of men who, with their claim to administer the official Christianity, seem mostly to hinder the true spirit of Christianity. "

There are those who see the Church as nothing more than the only possible path to God and who sees only the bottom of a multinational among others, although very well established and powerful. Anyway - that seem out of these opposing extremes - what happened about this student house, I think it can be difficult to explain completely externally from land appetites.
